Reducing discipline referrals / reduction in enforcing discipline

Updated thought- The easiest way to reduce discipline referrals is not to enforce discipline

Originally I posted- Reducing discipline referrals results in a significant reduction in enforcing discipline

Actually if we build a strong relationship with the students and have the students actively engaged there really shouldn't be any discipline issues

Hi Stephen:

Thanks for the follow-up! What help do you need to build strong relationships with students and keep them actively engaged?

I tried to change my preferences so I would get a notification of a response, but when I click on my profile it says that link does not work

Hi Stephen:

Thanks for joining our conversation.

Discipline is a real issue! I'd love to hear more from you about it. What additional supports do you need from the school, the district, and the state to handle discipline in a healthier way -- for you and for your students?

What quantifies as a healthier way? Are you inferring that current practices are unhealthy? Is having the student out of the general population unhealthy? Is there a systemic practice of unhealthy discipline practices? Is there a clear relationship to unhealthy practices and healthy practices and student achievement in the classroom and beyond? I don't mean to be harsh but I am under the impression there is a push to reduce discipline referrals keeping students in "general population" which is a good concept but I can tell you healthy is not the first topic that comes up now as a descriptor of the current classroom environment for me.
